GSA Pensacola Federal Courthouse Wins Project Achievement Award

The CMAA Florida Chapter has selected the Pensacola U.S. District Courthouse Renovation Project as the winner of the 2022 Project Achievement Award in the Government under $50M category.

The award recognizes AFG’s outstanding construction management practices for the General Services Administration (GSA) on the project.

In March 2015, shortly after GSA acquired the building, US Chief District Judge Casey Rogers sent a letter to GSA stating that the US District Courthouse in Pensacola, Florida had been infested with mold for 20 years without any permanent remediation.

The courthouse was quickly vacated and in 2017 AFG was brought on by GSA as the CMa to resolve the long-standing water-related challenges. AFG expertly oversaw the $33.4M, 100,000 sqft project that required extensive modernizations including replacing the building’s façade with all glazing, a new standing seam metal roof system, repair of structural damage, abatement of mold, and a complete interior renovation. Through aggressive scheduling, AFG kept the project on track.

In 2020, despite Category-2 Hurricane Sally hitting and 22 barges failing in the Pensacola Bay, the Courthouse successfully withstood all water damage thus showcasing the meticulous skill of the AFG team at properly securing the building for all future tenants.
