History

1990s

Founded in April 1990 as part of the ANADAC Facilities Group, our first contract was an exciting 5-year program providing program management and operational start-up services for 24 major facilities at the U.S. Navy TRIDENT Submarine Base. From these early days, our commitment to excellence and hands-on approach set the foundation for everything to come.

Soon, we earned our first major CM contract with GSA, which opened the door to projects across D.C. and New York and helped shape our evolving capabilities. As our reputation grew, we supported the NIH, the Smithsonian Institution, the U.S. Postal Square, Cornell University, and the U.S. Navy and Army.

By the mid-1990s, we expanded internationally. Through partnerships with the World Bank and USAID, we provided procurement audits, training, and construction consulting across Europe and Asia, including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Slovakia, and Russia.

2000s

In 2000, AFG achieved Woman-Owned Small Business status, a milestone that reflected our commitment to leadership and service. What began as a focused project management practice grew into a full-service team, guiding clients through every stage of project delivery, including Relocation Planning and Move Management.

Over our first decade, AFG expanded to more than eighty professionals and developed a diverse portfolio, adding Healthcare and Laboratory, Federal and Public Agency, Courts and Criminal Justice, and Education markets. With offices in Virginia and NY, we began building lasting partnerships with the VA, GSA, NIH, the States of New York and New Jersey, the Commonwealths of Virginia and Massachusetts, the City of New York, NPS, Intelligence Community agencies, USACE, and NAVFAC.

2010s

Throughout this decade, AFG transformed from a respected regional firm into a nationally recognized force in the AEC industry. By joining influential associations such as SAME and CMAA, we expanded our presence and soon stood alongside the industry’s leading firms.

Our teams earned CMAA Project Achievement Awards at both regional and national levels, received recognition from the City of New York, were honored by SAME, and celebrated as one of the region’s fastest-growing companies by the WBJ.

Each accolade reflected not only strong project performance but also the trust and loyalty of our longtime clients. By our 25th anniversary, AFG had multiple offices across the nation, and had earned a reputation as a proven leader in construction program management and relocation services.

The firm’s success was built on excellent client service provided by extremely talented professionals who always go the extra mile, supported by clients who continued to rely on AFG for their most important projects.

2020s

AFG stepped into a decade of renewal and progress. By this point, we had worked in 37 states with over 100 professionals, continuously improving client support. The 2020s are defined by growth and a strengthened sense of purpose.

We earned our first marketing awards, modernized our website, and introduced an online store, reflecting our growing identity. AFG curated a culture of leadership through the creation of our Intern and Mentoring Programs, AFG University, and encouragement for SMEs to share insights. Our focus on community grew as teams volunteered at local events, creating shared moments of service. Through national tragedies, pandemics, and federal shutdowns, we uphold a tradition of excellence.

As we chart the next chapter, the talent and dedication of our people will shape our future, ensuring every project reflects our standard of excellence and enabling us to meet the evolving needs of our clients. Guided by this commitment, we will continue to innovate and serve with the dedication that has defined our past.

For 35 years, AFG Group, Inc. has been more than a construction management firm—we’ve shaped spaces where life unfolds. Our team has guided historic landmarks back to their former glory, helped modern facilities meet the needs of those who rely on them, and stood alongside every team, client, and community through each challenge and triumph.

Every project tells a story, not just of schedules and budgets, but of people, care, and dedication. As we celebrate these decades of collaboration and impact, we look forward to the next 35 years of helping spaces thrive, inspiring the people who enter them, and leaving a lasting mark on the communities we serve.
