Dec 27, 2019 – The National Park Service has awarded AFG Group, Inc. a contract to provide Construction Management Services during the Rehabilitation of the Netherlands Carillon in Arlington Ridge Park, Arlington, VA. The restoration of this historic monument and active musical installation requires significant historical preservation expertise and experience with structural restoration.

The Netherlands Carillon is a 127-foot open steel structure adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery. This structure and bells were presented as a gift from the Netherlands to the United States in gratitude for aid during and after World War II in 1954, with original construction completing in 1960. Though this nationally registered historic structure was most recently renovated in 1994, the steel previously repaired is showing severe signs of deterioration. The NPS and Royal Netherlands Embassy are collaborating to restore and upgrade the Netherlands Carillon, including structural upgrades and installation of additional bells and associated equipment.

For more information on the history of the Netherlands Carillon, you can visit the NPS website at: https://www.nps.gov/gwmp/learn/historyculture/netherlandscarillon.htm.

AFG Group, Inc. will be providing full time on-site Construction Management during the Netherlands Carillon rehabilitation. The team will provide support during this project to improve safety and visitor experience by restoring and stopping deterioration of the steel structure and making improvements to stairs and railings. Additionally, after renovations are complete visitors to the Carillon will be provided access to the observation decks.
