AFG / GSA PBS Team Named Winner of the 2016 CMAA NCC Construction Management Excellence Award

May 9, 2017 – Herndon, VA, May 2, 2017: AFG Group, Inc. (AFG) with the General Services Administration (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS), as a team, has been named winner of the 2016 Construction Management Excellence Award for Small Firms by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Capital Chapter (NCC) for its efforts GSA Mary E. Switzer Federal Building Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Consolidation Project.

(AFG) with the General Services Administration (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS), as a team, has been named winner of the 2016 Construction Management Excellence Award for Small Firms by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Capital Chapter (NCC) for its efforts GSA Mary E. Switzer Federal Building Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Consolidation Project.

The CM Excellence Category recognizes contributions to the CM industry over the past year that are exemplary of the profession. Considerations for the award include the level of complexity of the project, how creativity was fostered in the execution of the project, and the level of success of the project outcomes. This is the inaugural year for the CM Excellence Category.

On the winning project, AFG and the GSA PBS provided project, construction and relocation management services for one of the largest GSA consolidation projects of 2016. 1,600 employees, 11 HHS facility sites, 5 operating HHS Divisions, and over 40 team members counted on AFG to seamlessly execute this highly visible project. The $49.4M consolidation project faced with several months of actual delays ultimately finished on-time, under-budget, with zero lost-time accidents, and zero claims. The Mary E. Switzer Federal Building as a historic building, located in downtown Washington, DC.

Project Executive, Paul Szmurlo, PE and Senior Project Manager, Frederick Clements, PE, accepted the award on behalf of the AFG team at the CMAA NCC awards dinner held May 4th at the Carlyle Club in Alexandria, VA.
