Sanford Federal Building & Raleigh, NC, Courthouse Renovations and Capital Security Improvements CM Project

Courthouses & Criminal Justice

AFG is the CM overseeing the new construction and renovations to improve building security needs as discovered during a recent Capital Security Study conducted to evaluate and identify security deficiencies at the Terry Sanford Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Raleigh, North Carolina. The improvements are necessary for the relocation of the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) into the building.

The work calls for the expansion of the second-floor area of the warehouse by approximately 15,000 sq ft in order to create approximately 22,500 sq ft of contiguous space. A judges’ parking garage will be built within the post office warehouse, an addition of a judges’ elevator and prisoner elevator to the tower installed, and a 3-phase renovation of the 6th floor probation office to facilitate connection of the new elevators to the existing tower’s corridors. A new Entrance Pavilion to improve access to the building and to create separate traffic flow for visitors to both the MEPS and U.S. Courts is also being constructed.

In this project, AFG is responsible for the construction management and assisting GSA in achieving the project goals with respect to the project schedule, budget, cost, scope, and quality.
