GSA NCR, E. Barrett Prettyman Federal Courthouse / William B. Bryant Annex, BAS Replacement

Courthouses & Criminal Justice

GSA Region 11 awarded AFG a contract to provide Construction Quality Management Services in the Prettyman Federal Courthouse in Washington, DC for the Building Automation Systems (BAS) replacement project.

The E. Barrett Prettyman Federal courthouse is a 1950s classical style structure located in the Judiciary Square and Municipal Center complex in Washington, DC. The William B. Bryant Annex, completed in 2005, is attached to the Prettyman Courthouse via a six-story atrium. The federal building currently houses the US District Court for the District of Columbia, The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and the US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

The original Building Automation System (BAS) managing temperature and HVAC systems across the structure are experiencing recurrent component failures, proving consistently problematic for tenants. The GSA requires replacement and upgrades to the system to ensure tenant comfort, extend equipment life, and drastically reduce energy costs. The objective of the project is to systematically replace the existing Schneider proprietary control system with a new open control system and front-end user interface.

Under this contract, AFG is providing onsite, full-time Construction Quality Management services for the BAS replacement within the courthouse and annex. AFG’s team will be providing project oversight, maintaining and reviewing design specifications, ensuring site safety, as well as providing a full range of construction management and project administration support. This project is currently expected to reach substantial completion in late 2021.
