GSA awards AFG Group contract for Abernethy Federal Building Project
AFG to provide CMa & Cx services for the $23.4M Abernethy Federal Building and Courthouse Project.
The General Services Administration has awarded AFG Group, Inc. a contract to provide Construction Management as Advisor and Commissioning services for the $23.4M Infrastructure Modernization & Mold Remediation Project within the Thomas G. Abernethy Federal Building and Courthouse in Aberdeen, MS.
While the three-story, 64K SF building was constructed in 1973 in downtown Aberdeen, MS, it was deemed uninhabitable in 2017 due to mold and moisture infiltration. The building was unable to regulate the indoor air environment, producing hot and cold spots, condensation build-up on interior walls, water leaks, and mold on interior surfaces.
Previous occupants included the US District Court, US Probation and Pretrial Services, US Attorney’s Office, Marshal Service, and GSA offices, but as of 2018, the structure has remained unoccupied outside of the US Postal Service on the first floor.
AFG is providing CMa and Cx support during this three-year renovation and restoration project, with expected completion of returning tenants to the leased spaces by 2024. This project will modernize the Abernethy Federal Building, including major alterations to the building’s mechanical and electrical infrastructure, replacement of the Building Automation System (BAS), mold and hazardous materials abatement, and fire and life safety upgrades. Exterior alterations for this project also include the tightening of the exterior envelope.
