AFG Wins 2013 CMAA Project Achievement Award

Nov 1, 2014 – AFG Group recently received the 2013 CMAA Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America, National Capital Chapter. The award recognizes AFG’s outstanding Construction Management practices for the Steam Line & Condensate Replacement Project serving GSA’s Heating Operations & Transmission Division. This $13.6 million highly complex project accomplished replacing 11,000 LF of 40-60 year old underground steam lines that serviced 21 Federal buildings throughout Washington DC.

As the Construction Manager, AFG served the GSA Public Building Service team during the project’s 5-year lifecycle. AFG undertook massive coordination of intertwined efforts involving more than 36 project stakeholders, multiple project sites, and 16 change orders. Construction required special consideration to preserve nearby historic buildings during excavation, demolition, installation of new pre-engineered steam and condensate piping, alignment, welding, and soil back fill and cover.

While prioritizing project quality and safety, AFG ensured the project was completed below budget and 93 days ahead of the approved schedule, with no OSHA recordable accidents. The CMAA award, presented annually, recognizes CM services for projects in various categories. AFG’s winning submission is categorized with construction projects valued over $10 million but less than $30 million.
