AFG Providing CQM Services for New EPA Conference Center

AFG will be supporting the $16M design-bid-build EPA Conference Center project within the Clinton Federal Building in Washington, DC.

AFG has been awarded the contract to provide Construction Quality Management services for the $16M design-bid-build Environmental Protection Agency Conference Center project within the Clinton Federal Building. The project team is providing full-time management, including project management, quality control, design review, AV/IT integration, and commissioning services for the interior renovation project.

The William Jefferson Clinton Federal Building is a complex of several historic buildings located in the Federal Triangle of Washington, DC. The original sections of the building were originally completed in 1934. The EPA consolidated its headquarters into the complex in the early 1990s, after which multiple renovations have been performed. In 2019, AFG completed the National Deep Energy Retrofit 2 Program within this building as part of a comprehensive energy audit of multiple facilities.

This project will develop 20k SF of vacant space that formerly served as the EPA cafeteria and kitchen into a state-of-the-art conference center named after the first EPA Administrator, William D. Ruskelshaus. The new Conference Center will provide modern conference capabilities including a 400 seat auditorium with flexible seating and large presentation screens, break-out rooms for smaller meetings and collaborative sessions, a reception lobby for pre-function gatherings, a pantry and serving area, storage space, restrooms, wi-fi and videoconferencing capabilities, flexible lighting technologies, and electronic displays for signage and wayfinding. The Conference Center will include one large divisible room and a series of six smaller conference rooms.

AFG will be scheduling and performing construction inspections on all materials, means, and methods, to ensure the project meets the P100 code compliance requirements. Specific to this project, AFG is performing and coordinating Fire Protection Engineering Inspections, Structural Steel connections, Industrial Hygiene monitoring, AC/IT inspections and commissioning, and HVAC commissioning of new and modified systems.

As home of the Environmental Protection Agency, the William Jefferson Clinton Federal Building is highly rated for sustainability and efficiency. The building received the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Existing Buildings certification in 2013, and currently performs low impact development and sustainable stormwater management practices. AFG will be utilizing skilled LEED associates in order to maintain and improve energy efficiency within the Conference Center project.
