AFG / GSA Team Awarded 2018 CMAA Project Achievement Award

Oct 17, 2018 – Herndon, VA — AFG Group, Inc., (AFG) a leading construction management firm, and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) have been recognized with a national Project Achievement Award by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA). The award recognizes AFG and GSA for the innovative methods developed to successfully complete the $16.6M GSA Sidney Yates Federal Building Exterior Restoration Project.

The AFG and GSA team provided construction management services, overseeing the restoration of all 6,400 masonry units, all 555 windows, and all stonework, using 19th-century materials and methods to meet historic preservation standards. The Yates Building, constructed in 1879, is located in Washington, DC on the National Mall.

Using innovative and strategic mitigation methods, the project realized $875,000 in savings, was completed on schedule, and with no OSHA recordable accidents. AFG and GSA’s winning submission was categorized with Government Projects that have a construction value of less than $50 Million. The project was also winner of the 2017 CMAA National Capital Chapter Construction Management Excellence award.

The award was presented at the CMAA National Conference Awards Dinner in Las Vegas, NV on October 16, 2018. On hand to accept the award was Paul Szmurlo, PE, Sr. Vice President, Kai Goodrich, CCM, CHC, LEED AP, Project Director, Thomas Johnson, Project Manager, Bridget Rogers, Assistant Project Manager, and Douglas Selby, GSA Project Manager.
