AFG Group Announces Retirement of Sr. Vice President, Paul Szmurlo, PE

AFG Group, Inc., an award-winning construction, program, and relocation management services firm, announces the retirement of Paul Szmurlo, PE, Senior Vice President, Director of Federal PM/CM Services effective June 30, 2022.

For 12 years, Paul has been instrumental in leading AFG’s growth nationally within the federal sector. During his time with AFG, he successfully won and managed hundreds of construction management services contracts including the second phase of one of the General Services Administration’s largest construction to date – the $3Billion Department of Homeland Security’s Headquarters on the St. Elizabeths Campus in Washington, DC.

Paul concludes his career with more than 30 years of program, project, and construction management (PM/CM) experience, including work on federal offices, educational and courthouse facilities, military installations, and numerous other facilities on an international basis.  He has built relationships across the industry, and successfully won and completed work for the GSA, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), National Park Service (NPS), Department of Treasury, the State Department (DOS), and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to name a few.

Under Paul’s guidance, the Federal Division received 8 Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Capital Chapter Project of the Year Awards, and 2 National CMAA Project of the Year Awards. Paul is a registered Professional Engineer and a retired U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps Commander.

Paul plans to continue his passion for growth by taking up farming in Southern Maryland, as well as spending more time with his grandchildren, hunting, and fishing.

“Paul set a high standard for excellence within AFG by securing multiple nationwide federal contracts, implementing award-winning project management approaches, and building a world-class team of professionals. He is directly responsible for AFG’s exponential growth over the past 10 years, and we are extremely thankful for Paul’s many contributions to AFG. We wish him smooth sailing, fair winds, and following seas.”
