Federal & Defense Agencies

AFG Group, Inc. (AFG), was awarded a professional engineering and construction management contract for the National Deep Energy Retrofit 2 (NDER2) Program with the General Services Administration National Capital Region (GSA NCR).

The goal of the $271M, NDER2 Program is to implement energy conservation measures through a public-private partnership at three GSA sites: the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Headquarters, the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Headquarters, and the William Jefferson Clinton Building.

A comprehensive energy audit will be conducted at each facility, improvements identified, and site specific projects that guarantee energy cost savings will be developed and constructed. The contract term with the chosen private energy service company, Ameresco, will last up to 25 years.

As the Construction Manager and Professional Engineering Support staff on behalf of the GSA, AFG oversees construction inspections, verify energy conservation measures, supervise commissioning, and run the project close-out. Expected site improvements will include, but are not limited to: control system upgrades, cooling system improvements, HVAC optimization, lighting upgrades, electrical and distribution upgrades, water conservation and wastewater minimization, and building envelope improvements.
