AFG Group was commissioned to provide project and construction management services on the $65 million, New Science Facility located on the campus of Lehman College, in West Bronx, NY. Specific services included project scheduling, design reviews, constructability reviews, value engineering, permit expediting, and construction surveillance and inspection. The new science building consists of a 69,000 SF research and teaching facility with state-of-the-art laboratories, administrative offices, seminar rooms, and public gathering spaces. In addition, a courtyard feature was created on the site by the new facility and the adjacent Gillet Hall. Sustainable features were integrated into the entire facility through environmentally sensitive design. A wetland was created in the courtyard which treats both the storm water runoff and grey water from the building before it leaves the site. An education feature was created and placed in the courtyard explaining this cycle and benefit. This building also incorporated other sustainable elements such as solar hot water heating, optimization of natural light, and high-performance, efficient energy systems. The project was designed and constructed to achieve a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold certification. |
